Maximize Your Savings
The best way to maximize your savings is by matching coupons with sales and promotions. When there is a promotion like “Buy One, Get One 50% off,” or “Buy 2, get $10 Extra Bucks,” adding a coupon could make it cheap or free! Sometimes you may even find an In-Store coupon to stack for a great stock-up price. You can use one manufacturer and one In-Store coupon per item. For example:
Buy 2 Aquafresh Extreme Clean @ $1.50, Get $2.00 ECB
USE 2 - $1.00/1 – Oral Care CVS coupon
USE 2 - $.50/1 – Aquafresh Extreme Clean coupon
PAY: $0.00, Get $2.00 ECB – Making this sale a MoneyMaker!
Some stores will allow you to double coupons, meaning your $1.00 MFC will be worth $2.00! Usually, there will be a limit on the quantity and value of the doubles. Kmart Double Coupon Events limit customers to 5 doubled coupons per day when you buy at least $25 in drugstore or grocery merchandise. Jewel Twice the Value Events limit customers to 5 doubled coupons per day when you present a Twice the Value coupon from the ad. Stores are not reimbursed for these promotional doubles.
Try to plan your shopping trip ahead of time so you will be sure you are getting the best deal. On Saturdays, I will write down what I am going to buy, what coupons I will be using, and my out of pocket price. I will separate transactions and add filler items if necessary. This way, I am less likely to make a mistake at checkout and will always be aware of what I should be paying. It is also helpful when you are Rolling catalinas, which can be overwhelming for a beginner.
Use online resources to find matchups:
Finally, be patient and learn one store at a time. Driving to 5 stores a week to try and get every single deal will burn you out very quickly. The best place to learn first is CVS because the deals are very basic. You will learn to stack In-Store coupons with manufacturer coupons, purchased based coupons, catalina promotions, and more. When you have mastered CVS, move on to Target, Walgreens, etc!
